The Field Service Technician – Bending & Robotic Systems supports advanced sheet-metal fabrication equipment, including press brakes, panel benders, and integrated robotic bending cells. This is a newly created role designed to support the company’s expanding robotic automation footprint in North America. This technician will serve as a hands-on technical expert in the field, supporting customers through installations, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, upgrades, and long-term service support.Â

Key Responsibilities
Field Service & Customer Support

Install, commission, service, and support robotic press brake and panel bender systems at customer sites

Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and basic robotic troubleshooting on automated bending systems

Diagnose equipment failures, resolve downtime issues, and execute corrective repairs

Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on robotic cells and bending equipment

Support upgrades, retrofits, and legacy equipment in the field

Robotics & Automation Support
-
Operate industrial robots using teach pendants for manual motion, jogging, point teaching, and frame setup

Troubleshoot robotic I/O, sensors, safety circuits, and interlocks

Read, understand, and modify basic robot programs (logic edits, IF/OR statements, jump labels, minor code changes)

Support robotic safety systems including E-Stops, light curtains, safety zones, and DCS concepts

Work primarily with FANUC and KUKA robots (experience with either is acceptable)

Applications & Process SupportÂ

Assist with applications-level support related to bending processes and part flow

Read 2D drawings and understand bend sequencing and forming concepts

Support CAD/CAM-driven workflows where applicable (training provided)

Collaborate with internal teams and factory specialists during complex installations or escalations
Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing

Communicate regularly with remote field teammates to troubleshoot and share best practices
-
Support internal training efforts and assist customers with operational guidance when needed

Maintain accurate service documentation, time reporting, and field notes

Required Qualifications
Technical Background
-
2+ years of hands-on experience in field service, maintenance, applications, or automation support
-
Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude (non-negotiable)
-
Experience working with industrial robots in a production or service environment

Ability to operate robots via teach pendant (jogging, teaching points, basic edits)

Experience troubleshooting: Electrical systems and schematics, Pneumatics, Sensors, I/O, and safety circuits

Experience supporting CNC or sheet-metal fabrication equipment (press brakes strongly preferred)

Robotics & Controls

Familiarity with FANUC, KUKA, or similar industrial robots

Ability to read and interpret robot programs and modify basic logic

Understanding of robotic safety concepts and integrated machine safety

Strong customer-facing communication skills; calm and professional under pressure

Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a remote field role

Trustworthy, detail-oriented, and accurate with time and service reporting

Willingness and ability to learn new platforms, equipment, and technologies

Travel & Work Environment
-
Comfortable with extensive travel (primarily Monday–Friday)
-
Willingness to support occasional weekend work for installs, trade shows, or critical service needs

Must live within reasonable driving distance of a major airport

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications
-
Prior experience running or supporting robotic press brake cells
-
Exposure to panel benders (training provided; experience rare and not required)
-
Basic CAD/CAM experience related to sheet-metal processing

Experience in a customer-facing field service role within capital equipment or industrial automation
-
Hourly pay with overtime
-
$90/day per diem when traveling
-
