Production Manager

Job Description

Position Overview
The Production Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating production activities across multiple food manufacturing facilities to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations. This role drives performance across productivity, quality, cost control, and employee engagement while ensuring adherence to internal standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.
The Production Manager partners closely with site leadership and cross-functional teams to align production execution with business objectives and demand forecasts, while fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee day-to-day production operations across multiple manufacturing facilities

Ensure production targets are achieved in alignment with safety, quality, cost, and delivery objectives

Monitor and analyze key performance indicators related to efficiency, yield, waste, downtime, and labor utilization

Standardize production processes and implement best practices across sites

Lead, coach, and develop Production Supervisors and frontline leadership teams

Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement

Support workforce planning, training, performance management, and succession planning initiatives

Promote clear communication and alignment across shifts, departments, and locations

Ensure strict adherence to food safety, quality, and regulatory standards, including FDA, USDA, GMP, and HACCP

Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety requirements

Partner with Quality teams to investigate deviations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions

Participate in internal and external audits and support corrective and preventive action plans

Lead and support Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and Six Sigma initiatives

Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and waste elimination

Lead cross-functional problem-solving efforts using structured methodologies

Support capital projects, equipment upgrades, and new product introductions

Collaborate with Planning and Supply Chain teams to align production schedules with demand

Work closely with Maintenance to improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime

Partner with Engineering, R&D, and Quality teams during process changes and scale-up activities

Ensure clear communication of priorities, risks, and constraints across facilities

Prepare and review production, labor, safety, and quality performance reports

Ensure accurate documentation, data integrity, and reporting across sites

Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control initiatives

Ensure finished products consistently meet quality specifications and internal standards

Perform additional responsibilities as required to support operational objectives
Qualifications & Experience

Minimum of 5 years of experience in a food manufacturing environment

Proven manufacturing leadership experience with a strong operational track record

Strong working knowledge of FDA, USDA, GMP, and HACCP regulations and principles

Experience driving Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and/or Six Sigma initiatives preferred

Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and engage teams at the plant floor level
-
Strong communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with hourly employees and leadership teams

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer-based applications

Strong time management, organizational, and multi-tasking capabilities

Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekend support as needed

Fluency in a second language required to support international operations; Italian preferred, Spanish a plus
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
While performing the duties of this role, the individual is regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods and may be required to grasp, lift, hold, or handle materials and equipment. Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be required. The role involves frequent use of manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination when working with equipment, systems, and documentation.
The position may require assisting with loads of up to 50 pounds with appropriate support. Work conditions may include exposure to hot or cold environments, elevated noise levels, and active production areas. These physical demands are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the role.
