Field Service Engineer

Clearwater, FL 33760

Industry: Engineering & Technical Job Number: 7531

Job Description

Are you a hands-on Field Service Engineer, Controls Technician, or Mechatronics professional who enjoys troubleshooting complex automated machinery and solving problems in the field?

We are partnering with a growing international manufacturer of advanced automated machinery that is expanding its U.S. service organization. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly technical team supporting sophisticated automation equipment throughout North America.

This is a true mechatronic position, combining approximately 60–70% electrical/controls troubleshooting with 30–40% mechanical work. You will work directly with PLC-controlled automated machinery, diagnosing electrical, controls, software, and mechanical issues during installations, commissioning, startups, and ongoing service.

Important: You do not need to be a PLC programmer or develop programs from scratch. We are looking for someone who can get online with an existing PLC program, understand the logic, and use it to effectively troubleshoot the machine.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Install, commission, start up, and service sophisticated automated machinery at customer facilities
  • Troubleshoot Allen-Bradley PLC-controlled equipment, including Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk environments
  • Read and interpret existing Ladder Logic, Structured Text, and Function Block programs to diagnose equipment issues
  • Troubleshoot HMIs, sensors, actuators, motors, drives, I/O, and other automation components
  • Diagnose electrical issues using schematics, control panel layouts, and technical documentation
  • Perform hands-on mechanical troubleshooting involving chains, sprockets, belts, gearboxes, drives, alignment, pneumatics, and hydraulics
  • Determine whether machine problems originate from the controls, electrical, mechanical, or process side of the system
  • Support machine installations from initial setup through commissioning and production ramp-up
  • Work independently at customer sites while collaborating with engineering and service teams in the U.S. and Europe
  • Provide remote troubleshooting support to customers and internal service personnel
  • Document service findings and contribute to machine procedures and SOPs

What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in field service, controls, automation, mechatronics, or industrial machinery with a degree, or 7+ years without a bachelor's degree
  • Strong Allen-Bradley PLC troubleshooting experience
  • Experience with Studio 5000 and/or FactoryTalk
  • Ability to read and troubleshoot existing PLC logic
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills and ability to read electrical schematics
  • Solid hands-on mechanical troubleshooting ability
  • Experience with industrial automation, automated machinery, or complex production equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot sensors, actuators, drives, motors, and I/O
  • Comfortable working independently at customer facilities
  • Willing and able to travel extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, with occasional international travel
  • Comfortable with assignments that may range from several days to multiple consecutive weeks
  • Valid passport or ability to obtain one shortly after joining
  • Experience with Schneider, Beckhoff, or Beijer PLC/HMI platforms is a plus, as is previous experience servicing packaging, processing, material handling, robotic, or other automated machinery.

Compensation & Benefits
  • $80,000–$100,000 base salary, depending on experience
  • 100% employer-paid employee health insurance
  • Dental and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with 4% employer match
  • 15 days PTO
  • Company-paid travel expenses and company card
  • Rental vehicles provided for applicable travel assignments

If you are an experienced Field Service or Automation professional who enjoys being hands-on, solving challenging technical problems, and working with advanced automated machinery, we would love to speak with you.
