This role provides leadership to the Quality Assurance team, oversees plant-wide food safety programs, and partners with Operations to drive continuous improvement in product quality, regulatory compliance, and audit readiness.

Food Safety & Compliance
The FSQA Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining all food safety and quality systems to ensure compliance with USDA, FDA, and customer requirements. This role provides leadership to the Quality Assurance team, oversees plant-wide food safety programs, and partners with Operations to drive continuous improvement in product quality, regulatory compliance, and audit readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Food Safety & Compliance
- Oversee the implementation, verification, and continuous improvement of HACCP, HARPC, SSOP, GMP, and related food safety programs.
- Serve as the primary contact for USDA-FSIS, FDA, state inspectors, and third-party auditors (e.g., BRC, SMETA).
- Lead and prepare for all regulatory, customer, and third-party audits; maintain “audit ready” status at all times.
- Manage the company’s TraceGains or equivalent quality portals to ensure timely documentation, specification updates, and customer communication.
- Develop and maintain product quality standards and specifications.
- Lead root cause analyses, non-conformance investigations, and corrective actions.
- Monitor and trend microbiological, chemical, and physical test results; ensure finished product meets all quality standards.
- Collaborate with R&D and Operations to support new product development, shelf-life testing, and sensory evaluations.
- Direct and mentor the QA/Food Safety team (technicians, supervisors, inspectors).
- Provide regular training for employees on GMPs, allergen control, sanitation, and food safety culture.
- Champion a culture of quality and continuous improvement across the plant.
- Maintain accurate records for all FSQA programs, including recall plans and mock recalls.
- Generate weekly and monthly KPI reports for senior leadership and corporate QA.
- Review and approve product labels, ingredient specifications, and supplier documentation.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 5–7 years in food manufacturing QA/Food Safety, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Certifications: HACCP Certified (PCQI, SQF Practitioner, or BRC training a plus).
- Strong knowledge of USDA/FSIS regulations, GFSI schemes (BRC, SQF), and customer audit standards.
- Proficiency with quality management software such as TraceGains, Genesis, or other client portals.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills.
