Sr. Project Manager

Cranberry Twp, PA 16066

Industry: Engineering Job Number: 7393

Job Description

Senior Project Manager – Industrial Capital Equipment

About the Opportunity
Our Client is a U.S.-based subsidiary of a global industrial machinery and capital equipment manufacturer, delivering highly customized, engineer-to-order systems to customers across multiple industrial sectors. We are seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead complex equipment projects from order intake through final customer acceptance. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role for a professional who thrives at the intersection of engineering, production, and customer delivery—and who takes true ownership of outcomes.

This position is ideal for someone who is not only a strong project manager, but also a cross-functional integrator: a person who naturally asks the right questions, connects the dots between departments, and ensures decisions are made with full visibility of cost, risk, and downstream impact.

Role Overview
The Senior Project Manager owns projects end to end, serving as the single point of accountability for execution, coordination, and delivery. Beyond schedule tracking, this role plays a critical part in ensuring that engineering decisions, production timing, procurement, and customer commitments remain aligned throughout the project lifecycle.

You will work closely with Engineering, Production, Procurement, Service, and Sales, acting as the “glue” that holds the process together—especially where responsibilities overlap or are unclear.

This is not a purely administrative PM role, nor a narrow engineering role. It requires judgment, leadership, and enterprise-level thinking.

Key Responsibilities

Project Ownership & Execution

  • Lead custom industrial equipment projects from kickoff through final acceptance and payment

  • Own scope, schedule, cost, and execution quality across the full project lifecycle

  • Serve as the primary customer interface, managing communication, expectations, and changes

  • Ensure all scope changes are properly evaluated, costed, approved, and communicated before execution

  • Identify execution risks early and drive corrective actions proactively

  • Lead structured project reviews and post-project lessons learned

Cross-Functional Integration

  • Act as the main interface between Engineering, Production, Procurement, Service, and Sales

  • Ensure engineering drawings, BOMs, and releases are complete, manufacturable, and issued at the right time

  • Challenge incomplete or premature releases that could lead to rework, excess inventory, or delays

  • Coordinate decision-making across departments when trade-offs are required

  • Take ownership of issues that fall “between functions” and drive them to resolution

Process & Decision Discipline

  • Bring structure and clarity to how decisions are made without creating unnecessary bureaucracy

  • Encourage accountability, ownership, and enterprise-level thinking across teams

  • Support the evolution of project management practices and tools as the organization grows

  • Mentor or support other project managers by modeling strong execution and leadership behaviors

What We’re Looking For

Required Experience & Skills

  • 8–15 years of experience in project management within industrial or capital equipment environments

  • Experience managing engineer-to-order / custom machinery projects

  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills, even without formal authority

  • Solid technical foundation (mechanical / industrial systems) with the ability to ask the right questions

  • Strong commercial and cost awareness in project execution

  • Comfort interfacing directly with customers and internal leadership

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Technical Orientation

  • Engineering background (mechanical, electrical, industrial) or equivalent hands-on technical experience

  • Ability to understand engineering intent, production constraints, and system-level impacts

  • Deep technical specialization is not required; judgment and system thinking are essential

Preferred Background

  • Experience with industrial machinery, automation systems, fluid handling, hydraulics, pumping systems, or similar equipment

  • Background in capital equipment, custom machinery, or complex industrial systems

  • Experience in multinational or matrix organizations is a plus

  • Exposure to manufacturing, production, or shop-floor environments strongly preferred

Why This Role Is Different

  • High ownership and visibility within the organization

  • Direct influence on how projects are executed—not just tracked

  • Opportunity to shape cross-functional collaboration and execution discipline

  • Potential for growth into broader operational leadership over time, based on performance

Work Environment & Travel

  • Combination of office, shop floor, and customer site work

  • Up to approximately 30% travel, including occasional international travel for project reviews or start-ups
